NASA presidential candidate Raila
Odinga has rejected the new election date set by Independent Electoral and
Boundaries Commission (IEBC). Odinga has said that he was not consulted over a
new date for the second battle for the Presidency with Jubilee Party candidate
Uhuru Kenyatta.
IEBC announced on Monday, September
4 that repeat election will be held on Tuesday, October 17 in line with Supreme
Court ruling and the Constitution.
Only Odinga and President Kenyatta
will be on the ballot even though Thirdway Alliance candidate Ekuru Aukot has
insisted that he will be on the ballot as well. According to Odinga, there are
thorny issues that have to be dealt with first, before a new date for election
can be announced.
The NASA leader has called for
prosecution of some of the IEBC officials including CEO Ezra Chiloba after the
electoral body was found to have not conducted credible elections on August 8.
The ruling by Supreme Court judges
to annul President Kenyatta's victory has elicited mixed reactions among
politicians and their respective supporters.
Those on the Jubilee side have been angered
and vowed to deal with Chief Justice David Maraga who is the head of the
Judiciary should President Kenyatta emerge winner.
